Iranian authorities committed crimes against humanity to crush the Woman Life Freedom uprising between September and December 2022, unlawfully killing hundreds of protesters and bystanders, including children, persecuting their families, and subjecting thousands to arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance or torture. Amnesty International mapped the chains of command behind these crimes and identified 87 officials who should be subject to criminal investigations. It calls on the UN Security Council to refer Iran’s situation to the International Criminal Court and on the UN General Assembly to create an international criminal justice mechanism to prosecute those most implicated in crimes against humanity in Iran.
