On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, prisoners across 38 prisons in Iran will continue their participation in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, marking the 62nd consecutive week of protest against the Iranian regime’s use of capital punishment. As part of this protest, the prisoners have announced a collective hunger strike to voice their opposition to state-sanctioned executions.
Campaign’s Statement: Condemnation of Executions
In a statement issued on this occasion, the campaign condemned the regime’s relentless execution of prisoners, highlighting that the clerical rulers of Iran have continued this inhumane practice even during Nowruz and the holy month of Ramadan. The statement read:
“The ruling clerical regime has not ceased its inhumane practice of executions, even during Nowruz and the holy month of Ramadan. In recent days, several prisoners have fallen victim to the insatiable appetite of Iran’s rulers for executions and repression… The ‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ campaign strongly condemns the brutal executions and inhumane death sentences, regardless of the charges, and calls for the abolition of the death penalty in Iran.”
The campaign has called upon all freedom-loving individuals and families of death row inmates to stage public protests outside prisons and in public spaces to demand an end to capital punishment in Iran.
Urgent Cases: Imminent Risk of Execution
The campaign has raised particular alarm over the confirmation of death sentences for multiple prisoners. Among them is Hamid Hosseinnezhad Heidaranlou, a political prisoner from Chaldoran, whose execution order was upheld by the Supreme Court and officially communicated to him on March 24, 2025. His case underscores the regime’s relentless repression of political dissent under vague charges such as “rebellion” (Baghi). The campaign warns that his execution could take place imminently and calls for urgent action to prevent it.
Another case highlighted is that of Varishe Moradi, whose death sentence is currently under review by the Supreme Court. The campaign asserts that her sentencing is not based on judicial fairness but is instead an act of state-sanctioned murder. The movement demands the immediate annulment of her death sentence and those of other condemned prisoners.
Ongoing Resistance Against Executions
As state executions persist, protests by families of death row inmates have been reported outside several prisons, including Lakan Prison in Rasht, Evin Prison, Saqqez Prison, and in the city of Songhor. The campaign stands in solidarity with these families and calls for the continued mobilization of citizens against the regime’s policy of systematic executions.

By continuing their protest inside Iran’s prisons and encouraging solidarity demonstrations worldwide, the movement seeks to amplify the call for the abolition of capital punishment in Iran and to challenge the regime’s policies of repression and state-sanctioned killings.
The world is urged to take action and stand in solidarity with the prisoners and their families as they resist this grave injustice.
