Live report | Wednesday, January 7, 2026

The nationwide uprising against the religious dictatorship in Iran has entered its eleventh day on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. What began on December 28, 2025, as a protest against economic collapse has firmly transformed into a political revolution.

Following a historic tenth day, which saw the people of Abdanan (Ilam Province) temporarily liberate their city and occupy a police station while Tehran’s Grand Bazaar resembled a “war zone,” the momentum has only accelerated. On Wednesday, reports indicate that the spirit of resistance has spread further, with students, market merchants, and even political prisoners uniting in their call for the downfall of the regime.

Day 11 Roundup: Strikes hit key energy sector; regime uses live fire as protests engulf over 20 cities

On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the uprising expanded significantly in both geography and intensity. While merchants continued their strikes in major economic hubs, the movement struck a strategic blow to the regime with workers at the South Pars refineries joining the strike. Violence escalated with reports of live ammunition used against protesters in western Iran.

Key highlights from today include:

  • Oil Sector Joins: In a major development, workers at the South Pars refineries have joined the nationwide strikes, threatening the regime’s economic lifeline.

  • Violence and Live Fire: The regime’s brutality intensified. In Lordegan (western Iran), a protester was critically wounded by live ammunition. Gunfire was reported in Karaj’s Hesarak Bazaar, and Maryam Rajavi confirmed live fire by IRGC forces in Kermanshah.

  • Forces Forced to Retreat: In Bojnurd, massive crowds forced security forces to retreat to rooftops to avoid confrontation. Similarly, in Qazvin, protesters successfully pushed back security units.

  • Shiraz in Revolt: A widespread strike has taken hold of the Shiraz Bazaar. Clashes have intensified with the regime deploying water cannons, while protesters used dump trucks to deposit stones for barricades.

  • Nationwide Shutdown: Bazaars in Tabriz, Rasht, Qazvin, Ahvaz, and multiple districts of Tehran (including the industrial sectors) have completely shuttered.

  • Student Unity: Female students in Qom and students in Zanjan joined their peers in Kermanshah, chanting, “This year is the year of blood.”
