Solidarity Demonstration with the Iranian Uprising in London

On Saturday, January 17, hundreds of freedom-loving Iranians, supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), gathered in front of the British Prime Minister’s Office (10 Downing Street). The demonstration was held in support of the Iranian people’s uprising and to call for regime change by the people and the organized resistance.

Speakers at the event included Naghmeh Rajabi, Azadeh Zabti, Neda Zabti, Masoud Zabti, Farzaneh Hosseini, and Parinaz Parto.

Azadeh Zabti, from the Association of Iranian Lawyers in the UK, referring to the killing of more than 3,000 people and the arrest of 50,000 during the protests, emphasized that the Iranian regime uses the courts as a tool of repression. She also highlighted Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan for a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear Iran.

Mr. Masoud Zabti, a lawyer and head of the Committee of Iranian Lawyers in the UK, said at the demonstration: Iran and the Iranian people have not made sacrifices for 50 years only to take a step backward and move from one dictatorship to another. This is not a choice between bad and worse; Iran will determine its own future.

Regarding the British government’s delay in designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Mr. Zabti said: How is it possible that the IRGC—an organ of the world’s most active state sponsor of terrorism—is not on the UK government’s terrorist list? This is shameful and embarrassing, and it only encourages them to threaten our citizens on the streets.

Warning the regime’s leaders, Masoud Zabti added: The Iranian Resistance is organized, and they will be prosecuted for their crimes—whether it takes one day or one century—and all the wealth looted from the nation will be taken back from them.

The speakers called on the UK government to take concrete actions, including:

  1. Placing the IRGC on the list of terrorist organizations.

  2. Closing the Iranian regime’s embassy and expelling its diplomats and agents.

  3. Recognizing the Iranian people’s right to legitimate self-defense against repressive forces.

The central slogan of the demonstration, repeated on banners and in chants, was “Death to the oppressor, whether Shah or Supreme Leader,” reflecting a rejection of any return to the former dictatorship or the continuation of the current tyranny. Other slogans such as “The only path to freedom is uprising and overthrow” and “No to the crown, no to the turban” also echoed throughout the gathering.
