UK PARLIAMENT CONFERENCE CONDEMNS EXECUTIONS IN IRAN, SUPPORTS DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC

On April 28, 2026, the Palace of Westminster hosted a major conference titled “Iran: Towards Peace and Freedom.” British parliamentarians, human rights advocates, and legal experts gathered at a critical moment in Iran’s history following the nationwide uprisings of December 2025 and January 2026, which spread across hundreds of cities and brought the regime close to collapse before being violently suppressed.

The political situation in the Middle East has also shifted after the recent war and the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response to growing internal weakness, the Iranian regime has intensified executions and repression.

Against this backdrop, UK parliamentarians stressed the need to reject both past and present dictatorships in Iran, end international silence on executions, and support the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) as a democratic alternative.

The conference featured a keynote speech by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the NCRI. Addressing members of the House of Commons and House of Lords, she described the regime as “fragile and unstable” and warned of escalating repression after the recent uprisings and conflicts.

Mrs. Rajavi revealed that since March 19, the regime has executed 18 political prisoners, including eight members of the PMOI and ten protesters.

She stated that they were denied fair trials and subjected to torture. According to Mrs. Rajavi, the regime is using executions to terrorize young people and prevent them from joining Resistance Units organizing future uprisings.
